Pieters projects selected for RAP 2019

From November 1 up to and including December 1, anyone who supports the architecture of Rotterdam can vote for the Rotterdam Architecture Prize (RAP) audience prize. From the 47 submissions, the jury selected ten buildings that beautifully portray the quality of architecture in Rotterdam. They are not only eligible for the jury prize of 2019 but also for the audience prize.

Garment factory
The clothing factory of the Groosjohan brothers moved in 1920 to the stately corner building on the corner of Aleidisstraat and Jan van Avennesstraat in the Middelland district of Rotterdam. Almost a hundred years later, at the start of the project in 2017, little was left of the original allure of this characteristic corner building. The verticality had largely disappeared and many characteristic details were missing.

The Provenier
Behind Rotterdam CS, care organization Middin has replaced a care home for a residential care building for the elderly and people with a disability: De Provenier.

A special feature of the Provenier is that different people in need of care live together in one place, and that care is secondary to living. Healthcare provider Middin was directly in favor of the idea of ​​emphasizing living and having care followed. The clear living vision: everyone gets their own home. Because everyone has the right to privacy and their own living space. That is why the design is based on ordinary, independent homes that are prepared for the separation of living and care. This gives the building great future value.

Gym De Adamshof
The Municipality of Rotterdam is building gyms at various locations in Rotterdam residential areas that can be used by several schools and sports clubs. The location of this gym is within walking distance of various schools in Kralingen. The design is the result of a collaboration between two design agencies: Ziegler | Branderhorst urban design and architecture and Artesk van Royen Architects. It is a timeless building that connects to the surrounding buildings, carefully designed with thoughtful details and solutions that invite you to work out.
