Pieters structural engineer of Urban Interactive District (UID)
Pieters has been awarded the contract for a fantastic project, the UID in Amsterdam close to the Johan Cruijff Arena and AFAS Live. This project is situated at the Arenapark, it is the still to be developed lot on the Arenaboulevard in Amsterdam Southeast. This area is being developed into an Urban Interactive District (UID). The client is development combination OMC, a combination of Ballast Nedam Development and AM. There are five architectural firms involved, both from England and the Netherlands. Pieters is a construction consultant for the five projects, and we experience that as a great honor.
The 2.5 hectare area will soon be a district with homes, offices, retail, food & beverage, a theater and a hotel. A great deal of attention has been paid to the urban integration into the fabric of the existing Arena area.
Approximately 990 homes are being developed, of which about 430 are student residences, 120 rental properties from 45 m², 290 rental properties from 65 m² and 150 rental properties from 75 to 90 m². The addition of these homes is a welcome addition for the city to meet the current large housing demand. The houses are primarily intended for starters in the housing market.
The various functions are housed in four individual clusters to be developed with a deepened parking garage underneath. Publicly accessible streets and squares are located between the clusters. With UID the entertainment area around the ArenA Boulevard is further provided. The houses provide more liveliness and dynamism in the area. The development of UID is currently in a planning phase.
UID is set up as a district. Both programmatically and physically, UID connects with the immediate environment, thereby strengthening the urban dynamics of the entire ArenAPoort. The mix of functions reinforces the position of Amsterdam ArenAPoort in the field of entertainment; by supplementing the existing large leisure functions with smaller leisure functions, hospitality, retail and urban facilities, a lively district is created throughout the week. It will be an area with different accommodation options and alternating morning, afternoon, evening and night rhythm.
