New modern facade for Freek Schilder, Volendam
At Morseweg 47 in Volendam, the building of fishmonger Freek Schilder has ben given a new modern facade, designed by KuiperSteur architecten. Pieters Bouwtechniek has calculated and checked the necessary structures.
What once started at the kitchen table has grown into a thriving wholesale trade in (fish) snacks. To meet the growing demand, three separate business premises have been transformed into a space suitable for a larger industrial kitchen. In addition, office space has been added that blends seamlessly into the whole.
A striking element of the new building is the symbolic 'light catcher' or aquarium-like curtain wall. The glass of this facade, which is illuminated in the color of the evening "IJsselmeer water", pays homage to the fish and the sea.
