Meelfabriek Leiden: building parts and status
The former flour factory on Oosterkerkstraat in Leiden is being redeveloped into a residential area, designed by Studio Akkerhuis. Old factory buildings are being converted into homes, a hotel, a spa & wellness, cafes, restaurants, galleries, shops and office spaces for creative companies, but demolition and new construction are also taking place. Almost the entire complex is a national monument.
The redevelopment will be realized in 2 phases. In the first phase, the old mill building and riffle room were converted into lofts. A 3-level underground parking garage was also built in the courtyard (after demolition of the workshop), with a new residential tower of 45 meters high on top.
Phase 2, the transformation into new homes, offices, Spa & Wellness and a hotel, started at the end of 2020.Building D is almost at height and building E is almost finished, it is now time for the next building parts.
The various building parts are depicted below, with information about their current status.
