First pile Netherlands Institute for Space Research
On Friday, October 18, the first pile for the new building for SRON (Netherlands Institute for Space Research) was laid.
The new building at the Leiden Bio Science Park in Leiden offers employees a modern, inspiring working environment and is a replacement for the office in Utrecht. This new building must offer space to SRON employees and to collaboration with top scientists from Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and sustainable collaboration with other organizations and the business community.
The SRON program includes cleanrooms, laboratories, low-vibration research room offices, meeting rooms, support functions and technology. Furthermore, a beautiful atrium, a number of cantilevers with trusses and high beams and installations.
The building is certified in accordance with the BREEAM-NL sustainability standard (an assessment method to determine the sustainability of buildings). The design comes with a BREEAM-NL score of more than 70%, which realizes the ambition for a certificate at Excellent level.
We work together with Ector Hoogstad Architects, the engineering firms Deerns and Peutz and the building combination Medicom Zes (Visser&Smit Bouw and Kuijpers). The design started in the summer of 2018 and construction started after a year: very quickly for such a complex building. The delivery is planned for March 2021.
Ector Hoogstad Architects had a video made about the project.
In the video below you can clearly see how this first pile was driven.
