First piles in the ground for POST Rotterdam

The former post office on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam is being redeveloped into a hotel with a new residential tower of 154 meters high. The developer is Omnam Group and Pieters Bouwtechniek  provides the constructive advice.

The demolition was recently completed. The first piles are currently going into the ground. First, pre-drilling is done to grind the wooden piles of the demolished building. A pile with a length of approximately 65m is then drilled into the ground in 2 segments. The second segment is hereby welded to the first segment, as soon as the first segment has been drilled into the ground. The production of these particularly long piles is approximately 1 pile per day.

POST Rotterdam is a national monument and one of the few remaining historical buildings in Rotterdam. It is located on the Coolsingel next to the historic town hall. The monument will house a hotel and a new apartment tower will be built in the former courtyard.
