2 Pieters' projects nominated for National Steel Prize 2024

This year, Pieters has also submitted projects for the Steel Prize 2024. This is the biennial construction prize for steel projects. The National Steel Prize has existed since 1971 and is organized biannually by Bouwen met Staal. The jury can nominate projects in five categories. In addition, the jury has the opportunity to award one of the participating projects, across all categories, with the National Steel Reuse Prize 2024. The results will be announced during the National Steel Construction Day. Two Pieter's projects have been nominated.

Amsterdam South Connection auxiliary heating plant
The Amsterdam South Connection Auxiliary Heat Plant was built on behalf ofVattenfall and supplies the district heating network of Amsterdam. It is located in the triangle between the A4 highway and the A10 ring road and the metro and train tracks.

The key element in the concept of the auxiliary heating plant is a hot water buffer with a capacity of 3,600 cubic meters. This buffer ensures that heat from AEB can be stored, so that it can be supplied to the Zuideramstel and Nieuw West urban districts behind it when demand arises. The auxiliary heat plant facilitates the growth of the district heating network, increases security of supply, guarantees the necessary greening of heat generation, increases capacity and improves the flexibility of heat generation (multi source). The construction consists of a low and high roof with the buffer tank behind it.

Statenjachtstraat, Amsterdam
In Amsterdam North, an existing tower block owned by Eigen Haard has been completely renovated to meet contemporary requirements. New apartments have been added to the flat, consisting of 2 and 3-room homes. The apartment building, consisting of 112 homes and 15 floors high, had a total of 49 new homes at the top. For this purpose, a light steel structure has been designed with hollow-core slab floors of only 150 mm high, to remain within the building height of the existing apartment building.

From the nominated projects, the jury can award a National Steel Prize in each category. The winners of the National Steel Prize and Steel Reuse Prize 2024 will be announced during the Steel construction Day 2024, Tuesday, October 15 in the AFAS Theater in Leusden.
