Cartesius Utrecht wins the Blue Zone Festival Award 2024
At the first Blue Zone Festival in Zwolle, Cartesius, the large-scale inner-city area development in Utrecht, won the first prize in the Real Estate Development category. The Cartesius Triangle is a project by Pieters. Part of this includes the CAB building. Pieters is doing several sub-projects, DGB00 DGB01 (DGB05) DGB09 are currently in an advanced stage. The guiding principle in the development is the creation of an ultra-healthy living environment based on knowledge about living conditions in so-called blue zones. The development for this has received the Blue Zone Festival award.
This festival fits perfectly with the concept of Cartesius, where the scientific theory of the Blue Zones is applied in the city center for the first time. Cartesius, the first Heart of Health area development in the Utrecht region, will be a healthy, green and sustainable new urban district in line with the world-famous blue zone principles that promote a long and healthy life. Two awards were presented: one for the best social intervention and one for the best real estate initiative. Marja van Reijn (MRP) and Carolien Vlaar (Ballast Nedam Development) accepted the prize on behalf of the Cartesius consortium.
The jury report on Cartesius Utrecht in short: “Cartesius Utrecht is a wonderful example of a highly urban development that is about more than just the realization of buildings. Cartesius responds to one of the challenges we face as a country: how do you shape housing and quality of life in cities where we are living increasingly closer together. Several blue zone principles were already implemented in the tender phase, and these appear to be actually being realised. Cartesius is not yet finished, but there is already a broad integrated collaboration between real estate organizations with various other disciplines, including social organizations, knowledge organizations, residents, municipality, management organizations and various designers. In that context, it is also nice that the development is scientifically monitored with a view to sharing knowledge and making interventions in the field of health possible."
