Projects Pieters nominated Staalprijs 2018
This year Pieters has submitted projects for the Steel Award 2018. This is the biennial structure price for projects in steel. The jury can nominate projects in five categories. The results will be announced during the National Steel Construction Day on Wednesday 3 October 2018. This day will be organized at TATA Steel in IJmuiden.
The All Weather Terminal 4 has been nominated in the category Industrial structure
An All Weather Terminal is a terminal in which seagoing vessels with weather-sensitive goods, such as paper and steel, can transfer the cargo dry on other means of transport, regardless of the weather conditions. An AWT consists of a large overcapping built over the quay and the water, which is open on both sides so that ships can sail in and out. At the top of the roof is a crane that can move the entire length and width of the roof for loading and unloading the goods.
The Cheese Warehouse has been nominated in the Housing structure category.
The Cheese Warehouse The Producer at the Wachtelstraat in Gouda existed for exactly 100 years in 2015. The building is a national monument and has always functioned as a cheese warehouse over the past 100 years. Now that the cheese production has moved to a different location, this striking building could be developed into a residential building with beautiful lofts. The building has 50 apartments of 60-120 m2, with a large atrium in the middle. The design takes into account the special role it has in Gouda's cheese history. Thanks to innovative reuse of as many elements as possible from the old warehouse, such as the original cheese shelves, the history of 100 years of cheese making can still be felt in the building.
The International Student House is also nominated in the Housing structure category.
The building International Student House concerns the final phase of the redevelopment of the TU-Noord campus, where DUWO has already built or redeveloped two student complexes from old university buildings in recent years. The new international student accommodation comprises 332 student flats especially for international students who come to study for a maximum of one year. The student rooms have a surface of approx. 16 m2 and are equipped with their own sanitary unit with shower, toilet and sink. They are connected per six to eight rooms in a residential group with a shared kitchen with two cookers and an adjoining balcony. In total, the gross floor area of the building is approx. 16.000 m2.
From the nominated projects, the jury can award a National Steel Award in each category, and in addition to all categories, a National Sustainability Award for Steel.
