POST Rotterdam: new hall under construction

The construction of POST on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam, designed by ODA New York and Braaksma & Roos Architecten, is progressing well. 

POST is the former main post office of Rotterdam and one of the few remaining historic buildings in Rotterdam.  The national monument will house a hotel and a new residential tower will be built in the former courtyard.  This apartment tower will be 154 meters high and will be placed on a 25 meter high table construction. In this way, the facades of the courtyard remain visible, creating a second beautiful hall in addition to the large existing central hall in the monument.

Now that the forest of stamps has been removed from the table top above, the contours of this new hall - the Inner Courtyard - are slowly starting to take shape. The 2.5x2.5 m2 mega columns form the basis of the vaulted ceiling construction in this enormous hall with a free height of almost 18 meters. 

On top of this table construction, work continues on the 153 meter high residential tower and POST Rotterdam is now head and shoulders above neighbor Het Timmerhuis..
