Opening of new Royal Smilde head office

The festive opening of the new Royal Smilde main building took place on Thursday 19 September. The new head office is on the site where the margarine factory is also located, in the bend on the Kuinder, with a view of the Tjonger. That site has been the property of Royal Smilde for years.

Jorritsma Bouw was the contractor for this project. The project concerned the design, the turnkey realization of the building, the supervision of the permit and subsidy process and the site direction. The user was central to the design. That is why large glass sections were chosen, which means that a lot of natural light enters. And for an installation with great comfort and a healthy living environment. The building is energy neutral. In addition, a demountable build has been made, a gray water circuit has been installed and only sustainable wood has been used.

Thanks to the Design & Build method, we were able to determine the best construction method. This resulted in a strategic vision with a faster construction time, fewer failure costs and higher quality. We worked with prefabricated elements. With this we ensured a clean construction and we were able to deliver within the planning. With this very 'green' head office, Smilde Foods gets a building that is ready for a sustainable future.
