First post Auxiliary heat plant ASC

The first pile of auxiliary heat plant Amsterdam South Connection (ASC) has been placed. The ASC is located between the railway and the A10 ring road at De Nieuwe Meer junction in Amsterdam. In the power plant, the heat from the waste incineration and the Diemen power plant is combined into a district heating system.

At the heart of the auxiliary heat plant concept is a hot water buffer of 3,600 cubic meters. This buffer ensures that heat can be stored from AEB and, if the demand is there, to be transferred to the underlying Zuideramstel and Nieuw West districts. The auxiliary heat plant facilitates the growth of the district heating network, increases the security of supply, guarantees the necessary greening of heat generation, increases capacity and improves the flexibility of heat generation (multi-source).

The construction consists of a low and high roof with the buffer tank behind it. An Instrumentation Room has been designed above the Buffer Barrel, so that the building rises gradually. There are 4 (with the possibility of a 5th) auxiliary heat boilers in the building to be able to heat up. The facades are made of glass, which gives the building a nice transparent character.

The design is by architect Willem Schutter ETH. Pieters Bouwtechniek and Pieters Bouwkunde worked together on the project as a constructor and structural engineer.
